The Chad Mitchell Trio.
It was 1959. At Gonsaga University, in Spokane, William Chadbourne Mitchell, Mike Kobluk and Mike Pugh started a folk music group. Unlike the Kingston Trio, Limeliters and others of the generation, there were no instruments in the hands of the singers. They had accompaniment but didn't play themselves.
After about a year Pugh headed back to college which allowed Joe Frazier to become a member. The boys joined Mercury records and the irreverent sounds started coming forth.
Chad left in 65 and was replaced by John Denver. Joe left in 66 and was replaced David Boise. When Mike left in 67 the group was officially dead as the name could not be continued without an original member.
In 87 the 3 originals and John got together for a few concerts and then in 2005 the original group started doing a couple concerts a year.
The CDs illustrate the music more than words. The CDs here and stations like www.kbrd.org continue the music.
