There they were, Paul Trietsch, Ken Trietsch and Gabe
Ward traveling with Ezra Buzzington's Rube Band. All dressed like
hicks and playing the vaudeville circuit. Then the depression
hit. Time to go to work at Monkey Wards. But, being musicians they
worked their way on to local radio (WOWO) and were soon discovered and went
on to the big time at WLS in Chicago. There they added a Bass player
Frank Kettering, another Buzzingtion alumnus and went on to become
the most highly paid novelty group of the titme. Movies followed
(Frank opted out of moving west and was replaced by Gil Taylor.) Then
came the 50s. Both in era and age. A radio show went for a while on
Mutual (simulcast on Los Angeles TV). Appearances on TV. Nevada casinos.
VFW halls. Gil left in the 60s and a Bing Crosby show alumnus, Nate
Harrison replaced him. Keith Milheim was added to round out the
group as more and more they played for folks to dance and Keith had
been Don Ragan's singer and drummer. Hezzie (Paul) got ill in 79
and after a few concerts without him the group disbanded in
1980. They left us with a catch phrase - "Are you ready Hezzie?"
- hundreds of recordings and a slew of movies.
