BAD NEWS FROM KIM AT OLUPA
Aloha everyone,
This email is to notify you all that OLUPA, the Olympia Ukulele Players Association, will no longer be meeting or performing. It has been a constant struggle to find a space to gather and my many attempts to organize OLUPA beyond the State level have not gained the needed support of OLUPA members. I can no longer hold up the organization as it is and we cannot use public space without being an official IRS recognized non-profit. I have brought this issue to the table many times over our three years of existence without success. The City of Olympia can no longer allow us to use their space or the space of Senior Services for free and we do not have the financial support or the structure in place to raise the funds to pay rent. We can not accept dues or donations because we are not a legal entity beyond the State level. We were expected to file the necessary Federal paperwork and that hasn't happened due to a lack of funds and lack of a support by organized members.
I will spare you all the further legal details except this- as of January 31, 2012, all necessary paperwork will be filed with the State of Washington and the Olympia Ukulele Players Association will be dissolved.
My hope is that you will all be absorbed in the surrounding area's ukulele groups - MUO, WASSUP, GEODUCKS, - there are many to choose from, or you can meet in your private homes. You are also welcome to try your hand at starting up another formal group. If you would like me to send an email out to the current email member list to see who is interested, let me know.
In the meantime, please be advised that in the following weeks I will be cancelling the two upcoming performances, March 10th and April 28. Please also be advised that there will be no further scheduling of performances or weekly song circles.
Keep playing and enjoying your ukuleles!
Thank you all...you can keep in touch with me here until the final papers are filed or reach me at pohonui@hotmail.com or pohonui@comcast.net. I think you all have my home phone number, if not it is 360 866-0279.
Aloha a hui hou,
Kim
